Overcoming Obstacles Would Get In The Way of Business

Recently there was a big storm that could have derailed my business activities. Here is the first of several articles I wrote (pen and paper) while the electric was out from the storm. Some people were without electric for 10 days. Thankfully ours was only out for 5 days. Our phone was out for 11 days. A LOT of cell phones were out the first couple of days as well. It was a really weird week.

Anyway, Here is the first article:

There will be times when things happen that will get in the way of your daily business routine. Let’s face it, life happens.

I sit at my desk as usual but today there is no electric, no internet and no phone. There was a major storm last night that left over 650,000 people without electric in Ohio. Other states also suffered similarly so there were much more people affected but I only heard Ohio’s numbers. At the moment my only connection to the outside world is a battery operated radio. We live in the sticks so we don’t even get a cell signal out here.

They say it will be 5-7 days to get everyone’s electric back on. To top it off, we are having a record heat wave and the temperatures are over 100 degrees. Yuck! This is one of those times when life happens. What do you do? Do you just put business on hold and wait for the perfect conditions to return?

NO! Not a good plan!

There is a better plan and it’s just what I am doing.

I decided to view this is an opportune time to get some articles written. The lack of internet and phone provide me with distraction free environment to take my list of ideas for articles. I have fresh spiral notebook and pencil and I am starting with this article.

The point is, if you take your business seriously, you won’t let a little thing like no electricity, no phone and no internet stop the progress toward your goals. There is always a way. It may require getting creative. Maybe even using old fashioned tools like pen and paper. 😉

Under normal conditions I have my laptop and my Kindle Fire so I keep my business mobile and when I travel or when things happen that interfere with my business schedule. Right now everyone in our county has the same problem of no electric. If I have to I will drive somewhere to connect in a day or two.

The key to success in your business is to know where you are going and always have a plan to get there. Yes, there will be obstacles but we don’t let those stop us. We step around those obstacles and keep making progress.

Every day, no matter what kind of day it is, ask yourself, “What can I do TODAY that will help me progress toward my goals?”

Success Tip: Stop Wasting Money On Bad Leads!

Today I feel the need to rant a bit. I am SO MAD at the lead companies who scam people out of their money. It really makes me fuming Mad. I will do some EFT after I finish writing this post. 😉

I really love the freedom I have because of network marketing and I want to see other people experience that too. I just got off the phone with yet another network marketer who WASTED his money on bad leads. He starts right off saying, “Melodie, I am calling because you filled out a form online to learn how to recruit people for your network marketing business.”

HA! That immediately tells me he has either bought bad leads or he’s just a liar using that line on people he hopes to recruit. I know I never filled out a form like that. I have been successfully recruiting for over 20 years with one company. I currently sponsor more people in my primary company in one week than most network marketing distributors sponsor in their entire network marketing life. I did NOT fill out a form like that.

I’m actually impressed that the guy called me himself rather than the automatic recorded message caller thingy most people are using these days. Either way they waste money. Since the very early days in my business I looked for ways to get people to come to me. I admit, I did try some leads many years ago. I’m sure there are probably some lead companies out there that are really trying to provide good leads but really, how can you tell. I found the leads I spent a lot of money on to be almost as bad.

Another thing that makes me fuming mad is the way the many hopeful network marketers who bought my son Brandon’s name as a lead are getting ripped off. I get postcards and direct mail every week for him. Guess WHAT!! Brandon hasn’t lived here in more than 15 years!! Get that: 15 YEARS! They are still selling his name as a lead!

The best leads are the ones YOU generate through your own marketing. Wouldn’t it be better to take the money you waste on bad leads and use it on some real ads that get real people to your web site? Wouldn’t you rather have people call YOU about your business? Wouldn’t it be better to get emails from people with questions? This is another reason YOU SHOULD HAVE A BLOG! Wouldn’t it be better to have those people who came to your web site subscribe to your blog and get every update about building a business or how to use oils?

There are LOTS of ways to get people to your web site or blog, both free and paid for. It’s called Attraction Marketing.

Attraction Marketing is more than just marketing techniques. It’s a mindset. It’s a whole approach to your business. When you are not chasing people, you radiate an energy that attracts people. It’s called Law of Attraction. When you chase people, you repel people. You will have a struggle all the way.

It doesn’t have to be a struggle! You can love marketing if you learn to do it right. When you put Attraction Marketing and Law of Attraction together it’s a beautiful thing.

I’m sorry. I have been a bit on a rant today but I love this industry and I hate seeing people struggle needlessly.

I’m off to do some EFT on my feelings about this issue. Can’t let it become a block to my business. 😉

What is EFT and How Can It Help Your Network Marketing Business?

EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques is a form of psychological acupressure. With EFT you are tapping on various acupuncture meridian points while you focus on a negative issue you would like to change.

About 5,000 years ago, the Chinese discovered a complex system of energy circuits that run throughout the body. These energy circuits, or meridians, are the centerpiece of Eastern health practices and form the basis for modern day acupuncture, acupressure and a wide variety of other techniques.

With EFT, we are using a tapping technique instead of needles to stimulate traditional Chinese acupuncture points. While tapping various points on the face and body we are also verbalizing the issue followed by a general affirmation phrase.

EFT works on the physical and emotional level. You don’t have to believe it will work in order to get results. Many people have been skeptical when they first tried it.

Here’s a quote from Gary Craig’s EFT Manual:

“The cause of ALL negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. This includes fears, phobias, anger, grief, traumatic memories, PTSD, worry, guilt and all limiting emotions in sports, business and the performing arts. That’s a comprehensive list and covers just about every restrictive emotion we can experience.”

“Differently stated, this means that all these negative emotions have the same cause…. an electrical “zzzzzt” in the body. It also means…they can all be relieved in a similar manner.”

Everything we experience in our past from childhood on up affects our programming. Some of those experiences were very stressful, maybe even traumatic. The negative experiences around those events become an electrical “zzzzzt” in the body which can become blocks that affect our business and other things we want to do in life.

Here is an example from my life:
When I was 9 years old I was abducted by a stranger. I was able to escape but the event was terrifying. It affected me from that point on. I was afraid to go anywhere alone and I didn’t trust strangers. I have had subconscious protection programming going on that contributed to my not feeling comfortable in visible leadership roles. Actually it was quite a bit more than an uncomfortable feeling.

When I started my network marketing career, it was in spite of an intense fear of being a leader. At first I didn’t understand why I was so afraid. All I knew is that I had to be a leader if I wanted success in network marketing. I pressed on in spite of the fear.

I didn’t know EFT in the beginning but I was bull headed and would not give up. I knew my WHY and I was determined to be successful. You know how they say your WHY should make you cry? Mine did and STILL DOES!

That childhood memory caused me to be afraid to go anywhere alone, afraid to be visible and afraid to trust strangers. You can imagine how that would cause a lot of limiting beliefs in a business where I have to be a visible leader and talk to strangers.

EFT has been a powerful tool for releasing negative emotions clearing the layers of protection that become blocks to success.

When you clear things with EFT, some things will be cleared and you won’t have to keep working on it. One example is my fear of flying. I did EFT on one trip through the airport and on the plane. I am amazed how comfortable I have been since then. I have never needed to do anymore tapping when traveling on planes.

Some things you will want to do EFT on over and over. Someone who knows how to push your buttons and triggers you, may need multiple tapping sessions. When someone makes you mad, stop and tap.

Three mistakes That Can Shipwreck Your Network Marketing Business

1. Not Taking Personal Development and Self-esteem Building Seriously: If you don’t have a love for yourself and a strong self-esteem, you will NOT care enough to do what it takes to build a business that actually earns income. You will not care enough about your dreams to make things happen. This may sound a little funny to some but it’s really important.

Jim Rohn said, “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.”

Without personal development, you won’t build confidence and self-esteem in yourself and your business. Your prospects will pick up on that.

If you have a love for yourself you will invest in your life plan. Network marketing is an industry that has a high failure rate. That’s not because the business model is bad, it’s because people jump in with dreams of making a lot of money but they don’t realize they need to invest in their success. Investing not only time but money. Yes, I said money! Invest in training books, audios and courses. Things that help you grow your skills, and yes, that includes building self-esteem. As you get more training and skills, your self-esteem and confidence grows.

2. Focusing on the Wrong Things: Fear of failure is one of the big obstacles distributors struggle with. We all deal with it to some degree but we must focus on the right things if we want to get where we want to go. Don’t focus on every temporary setback and bump in the road. Focus on what you want to achieve, the road ahead of you, keeping the goal or your WHY in mind.

Think of it like driving a car and going on vacation at the ocean. When you drive your car anywhere you are looking at the road ahead but you are looking in the distance, not at every bump or pothole in the road. If you spend too much time looking at the bumps and holes on the surface of the road, you can end up missing something really big. You can even end up in a ditch. While you will notice holes and bumps, you aren’t looking at them with full attention. You just notice enough to make corrections in your course, all the while keeping your attention on the goal ahead of you: Your arrival at the ocean and enjoying a wonderful vacation.

Your business is similar. Focus on what you want to achieve in your business and your WHY! Don’t let the bumps along the way derail you.

3. Letting Negative People In Your Life Derail Your Success: This one sort of goes along with the previous one. These negative people can be a bump in the road. Are you going to let them derail your success? This is why it is SUPER IMPORTANT to attend as many network marketing and company events as possible. Some events require us leaving the house but many are available to us through conference calls and webinars. These events keep us going and act like an antidote to the poison of negative people. Negative people can poison our dreams and make us give up.

I’m just like you. I have had to deal with negative people. In the beginning it was a real challenge. My own husband was negative. He didn’t believe we could build a business. Back then I was “spending too much time on the computer.” Today he’s delighted I worked hard on the business. He works with me from home.

I remember one relative telling us to “Quit selling herbs and get a real job.”

We all have negative people in our life. These people love us and they think they are helping but they unknowingly poison our dreams if we let them. We can’t let them do that. Our diligent attention to personal development can help us remain strong and focused on our goals. Hanging around successful people will help offset the negative energy and help keep our vision in view.

Network marketing is an awesome business. Keep moving forward and never give up.

Is Perfectionism Killing Your Business?

At first glance perfectionism seems like a good thing. We all want to do things well but in reality perfectionism is killing the progress in many network marketers business.

I hear it all the time. “I can’t start selling the products until I learn more.” I don’t know enough to build a business.” “I don’t know how to be a leader yet.”

I have heard all kinds of reasons why people can’t build their business yet. It is the number one reason people give me as to why they don’t want to start writing a blog. They don’t feel like they know enough so they will wait until they know more.

Funny thing that happens when you wait until you know enough. You never seem to get to that point. There will ALWAYS be more to learn. Our fears can keep us stuck in a state of analysis paralysis. There is no perfect person on the planet! We are all human and we WILL make mistakes.

I love that quote by Joe Schroeder, “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it GOING!” The way to get anywhere is to start from where you are right now and learn as you go.

Here is the key:

Learn things –> Share what you learned! –> Repeat –> Learn things –> Share!

If you are writing a newsletter or a blog, you can share things you are learning. Share things that will benefit other people. There are many people in need of the things you have learned. Even if you are a brand spanking new distributor, you can start writing a blog.

Writing a blog and building a list is one really powerful way to build your business. It’s absolutely HUGE in importance, especially if you have any plan to do any online marketing.

Once you begin writing your blog, don’t be so worried about getting it perfect. Just get it going. 😉

I know how easily you can get caught up in details and perfectionism. It’s something I have struggled with over the years in my business. When you find yourself stalled because of trying to get things just right, remind yourself of Joe’s words.

“You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it GOING!”
